Topcon, the world leader in ophthalmic instrumentation introduces its totally new OMS-800 Operation Microscope with Optical Fiber Free Intravitreal Surgery System (OFFISS). This unique system allows the surgeon to perform bimanual vitrectomies and other types of retinal surgeries without the need of hand held fiber optic illumination. The full-function OMS-800 features state-of-the-art refinements such as double focusing mechanism, electromagnetic locks, a programmable multi function footswitch, etc. The OMS-800 is also suitable for all ophthalmic operations, including cataracts, refractive surgery, eye muscle surgery, etc.
With modern and ergonomic design, the OMS-800 offers comfort and relaxation for the surgeon and assistant affording at the same time a clear and bright view of the different structures of the eye with total and effortless control over all mechanical and electronic functions.
Comfortable Operating Position
Ergonomically designed optical head with built-in beam splitter allows the surgeon to maintain a comfortable posture during surgery. A key component to this comfort is the variable angle binocular eyepieces that can be set to a personal viewing angle from 45 to 90 degrees. This flexibility assures comfortable operating position even while using OFFISS.
Programmable Footswitch
A programmable waterproof multi function footswitch allows the customizing of the microscope functions to the surgeon’s needs, including extra switches for supplementary functions.
Electromagnetic Locks
The electromagnetic locking mechanism releases with the pressing of a button conveniently located in the microscope handle allowing the entire optical system to be positioned with a feathery touch. An extension of the release is also located in the back of the instrument for ancillary personnel to unlock and position the microscope as well.
IOL Positioning Mode
An IOL positioning mode automatically elevates the optical head to permit the insertion and manipulation of an intraocular lens by direct observation. Once in place the mechanism returns the microscope to operating position without loss of focus or location.
Illumination
Three types of illuminations are available with the OMS-800: Retro illumination, three-angle illumination (combining retro and inclined illumination) and yellow filter to protect the retina against phototoxicity. With the use of this yellow filter, the surgeon can operate for 111 minutes without inducing phototoxicity of the retinal tissue. This fact is based in the difference between the amount of radiation produced by the OMS-800 with OFFISS and the threshold for retinal damage due to phototoxicity. The retinal irradiation with OFFISS is 30mW per square centimeter. The threshold for retinal damage is 200 Joules per square centimeter. The exposure time to reach the threshold with the OMS-800 is 111 minutes.
Bulb Replacement
The replacement of a burned out bulb can be accomplished in seconds, without disrupting the operating field thanks to the rotating bulb replacement knob located in the base of the first arm. A pilot light turns on when there is a burned out bulb in the replacement socket indicating the need to replace it before it is needed.
Speed Controls
The X/Y translator, the focusing and the zoom mechanisms have speed adjustment knobs in the main control panel. With these controls, the user can adjust the speed of travel of the three functions to adapt them to the surgeon’s best requirements.
Objective Lens
A special coating on the objective lens makes it impervious to fluid splashes facilitating the cleaning.
Ceiling Mount
A ceiling mounted version is also available for hospitals and other high volume centers.
Assistant Scope
The specially designed assistant scope has an individual focusing knob that allows the assistant to focus the instrument independently from the surgeon. The same attachment without the focusing capability is also available at a lower cost.
OFFISS Attachment
The OFFISS attachment is engineered with strict tolerances on durable materials for long lasting service. It can be sterilized with the STERRAD™ system or with Ethilene Oxide Gas (EOG). OFFISS comes in it own sterilizable box.
Inverter
The OMS-800 OFFISS comes with a Oculus™ inverter complete with footswitch and power supply. The inverter also has a sterilizable rubber handle that allows operating it without the power supply. The inverter complements the function of the OFFISS attachment by turning the retinal image back into position.
Stability
Column and base are balanced and weighted for optimum stability. Four large casters with individual locking mechanisms make the OMS-800 easy to transport from room to room with a 72 x 72 cm. compact footprint that accommodates virtually any operating theater. The stable base and long arms provide a comfortable working area for the surgical team. Once locked, the instrument remains firmly parked for safe and reliable duty. |
